Surviving your first storm in Skybound Outpost

May 1, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Most Skybound Outpost runs die in the first storm, and it's almost always the same mistake: overbuilding before you have a stable power and food base. I did it twice before I learned to slow down.

In the opening hours, prioritize a small surplus of both power and food over expansion. A little buffer means a storm knocking out one building doesn't cascade into a full collapse. Growth is tempting, but stability keeps you alive.

Watch your morale number closely. It's easy to ignore until citizens start leaving, and once that spiral begins it's hard to reverse. A single well-placed morale building early pays for itself many times over.

The mid-game does get grindy — I won't sugarcoat that. But if your early economy is solid, you'll have the breathing room to plan bigger projects instead of constantly firefighting. Build slow, build stable, then build big.
